Targus® continues to take meaningful and positive steps to create a greener future as we aim to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. During Earth Day, we’re excited to share with you our latest progress in Targus’ journey to protect people, tech, and the planet. Keep reading to learn more.
Targus laptop bags and tech accessories not only protect your tech, they also help you make smarter choices for the planet. Since 2008, Targus has been using recycled plastic bottles to make our EcoSmart® laptop bags, which has since resulted in the use of 37 million recycled plastic bottles, so far!
Fast forward to today, we continue to adopt more varied and sophisticated product strategies to bring more innovative, eco-friendly products to the market. Last year, Targus launched our Coastline EcoSmart Collection of laptop bags made from recycled materials including certified ocean-bound plastic. Using ocean-bound plastic in our products helps reduce plastic waste destined for our oceans and waterways. And in 2023, we started making tech accessories like mice and keyboards designed for sustainability. Our Targus EcoSmart™ tech accessories are made from up to 85 percent post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic and operate on ultra-low power Bluetooth® technology. Our award-winning Sustainable Energy Harvesting EcoSmart Keyboard also uses solar and energy harvesting technologies to help reduce power consumption and energy usage.
This past year, Targus has launched several new products featuring EcoSmart: our Geolite EcoSmart Collection, Terra EcoSmart Backpacks, women’s collection of Avila laptop bags, flagship HeritageLuxe Backpack designed for on-the-go executives, and EcoSmart mouse/keyboard bundles. We are also proud that 95 percent of our product packaging is made from recycled materials.
Demonstrating our company’s progress in sustainability, Targus has also improved the ways in which we set goals and report on our results by participating in important sustainability reporting and certification initiatives: EcoVadis, Project Gigaton™, and THESIS. Our company has strengthened our sustainability rankings across the board each year, which includes achieving Giga-Guru status for the last two consecutive years through Walmart Project Gigaton. Project Gigaton is Walmart’s large-scale sustainability initiative aiming to reduce one billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions from its global supply chain by 2030. As a Giga Guru, Targus is among an elite group of Walmart’s most sustainable suppliers.
